shareSpecial drama "Budou no Ki" (Grapevine) (7 Nov, 2003)
Length: 1 hour 34 mins 16 secs Size: 361 MB
Starring: Yamashita Tomohisa (NEWS)
Highlights: This is a very moving (read: tear-jerking!) special one-off drama about people who become foster parents and the kids they take into their family. It is an excellent drama (just ignore the first 10 minutes where they lecture a bit as they try to educate the Japanese public about foster care.) Yamapi plays the teenage foster child role and he is excellent as a delinquent (I guess he was probably going through that phase in real life at the time too!) I really recommend this drama - but make sure you keep a box of tissues handy as I don't think anyone could ever watch it without crying. I want to tell you my highlights, but I don't want to ruin the story too much, so let me just say that I loved Yamapi's letter to his parents near the end of the drama.

"24 Hour TV Special drama" (29 Aug, 2009) "Niini no Koto Wasurenaide"
Length: 1 hour 41 mins 2 secs
Starring: Nishikido Ryo (NEWS/Kanjani8), Yamada Ryosuke (Hey!Say!JUMP)
Highlights: Ryo plays a guy who gets a brain tumor. His family are absolutely wonderful and love him dearly. [And now for my real opinion: Usually I love tear-jerker mini dramas like this, but the way they jumped through time so much meant that I have to be honest and say I didn't like it very much. I did think the family were all wonderful and it made me think again about how lucky I am to have a family that is so similar to the one in this drama. But the two people who were the ones who kept promoting the drama - Ryo & the nurse chick - were kind of non-events! The nurse chick had the tiniest role ever!! And Ryo is a great actor, but I felt much more of a connection to all the other characters than I did to him. The jumping scenes and lack of information about his disease made me feel like I didn't ever learn much about his character.

"Chichi yo Mukashi Anata wa Erakatta" (16 Nov, 2009) Special drama

Highlights: Kato time-slips to a time when his mom & dad were student protesters in the late 1960s. The story is supposed to make young people these days want to be passionate about things & stand up & fight for them, but personally I was just fighting to make it to the end of the story without laughing at the random "I am lecturing you on history of the 1960s" voice-overs and the huge plot holes! *oopsy* But Shige's character in it was funny & I always love seeing Shige cry while singing!
